Property Taxes Need To Come Down

The long ago quote "the power to tax is the power to destroy" is well exemplified by New Jersey which touts the highest taxes in the nation. 7% sales tax, high state income taxes and the highest property taxes.

The problem is too much government. Almost 1,200 municipalities and school districts not including the public agencies, authorities, commissions and universities. That's nearly 2,000 government entities with the power to hand out contracts paid for with taxpayers' dollars.

That folly is overtaking Washington to the local municipality. Nearly one in five work for and get their paycheck from some type of government or government funded agency. Where is the wisdom in having to pay for one public servant for every 5 individuals? Who pays for it?

There is a drastic need to consolidate services, reduce the ratio of public employees in order to get the cost of government off the necks of taxpayers. At a certain point the law of diminishing returns becomes effective.

More government does not mean effective government or even efficient government. For instance, even with a bloated police force , statistics show that the chances of catching a criminal in the act is next to nil. A bloated social services department does little to help those on the dole. The private "help wanted" sections in the newspapers answer basic needs more efficiently.

After all, everyone knows the goose that lays golden eggs is not the government taxpayers fund but private industry. Or do they know? The Power To Tax Is The Power To Destroy
